A Quick Chat with Breakage

Having been one of the integral parts of the dubstep movement, Breakage has still manage to hold down the respect from his piers as the dust has settled from it’s global explosion.  Now stepping into a new direction, you can catch him playing side by side with fellow Digital Soundboy artist Dismantle at the next Speakerbox.

Hi Breakage. Thanks for taking the time to talk to us. We’re look forward to having you with us at the Speakerbox event in October! What have you been up to this summer?
Been hiding away finishing up my third album for the most part!

As a producer how far has your sound evolved from where it was 3 or 4 years ago to where you are today?
Maybe I’m too close to it, but I can’t quite pinpoint it really, although there is a change… My programming and technical ability has improved and I think I’m blurring lines a lot more than before… maybe?

It’s probably not right to label you to just one genre, but what was it like being part of the dubstep movement when it was blowing up?
It was really cool, really exciting times. I think the lack of formula as a genre caught my ear. It was really open at that point to do whatever you felt like.

What’s your best memory from this time?
The first time I heard “Together” feat David Rodigan (which then became “Hard” feat Newham Generals) get played.  Mala played it and it got a rewind, was dead happy lol

What are you most looking forward to about playing back to back with Dismantle at the newly refurbished Building 6 venue?
The on stage banter between me and dismantle… a lot of laughing and slagging each other off

What can we expect?
Pretty much anything musically!!

You’ve collaborated on the track “Ass up” before, have you got any more plans to work on some bits in the studio together?
Yes, 100%… we’ve actually made another since then and plan to work more for sure

As a label how important has the support been from Digital Soundboy in releasing your music?
Highly. It’s one of the few labels where you’re free to make what you want (as long as its good!)

When you’re out at the club who parties the hardest?

And finally any forthcoming releases or other projects you can tell us about?
The album (obviously!) and also a remix of “Youth” by Foxes which is out in October.. I think… there’s more, but I like to keep my cards rather close to my chest!
