A Quick Chat with Dream Mclean

As we get ready for the unveiling of Building Six we caught up with Dream Mclean. The 21 year old from Essex has been picked up by MTA records after Rage showed his Grime Daily freestyle to Saul (from Chase & Status) who got in in touch. It wasn’t long before he did a version of their track classic track ‘Saxon’ and the rest is history. Growing up on a diet of the like of classic rappers mostly – Nas, Mobb Deep, Wu Tang and his links to grime have given him a range of different influences from both sides of the Atlantic… and if you were to ask him how he would describe his style, one word – “Powerful.”

Thanks for taking the time to speak with LWE Dream Mclean. How was your summer?

Summer was amazing, spent some time in Ibiza. Performed at Wireless and did some cool shows, as well as worked hard in the studio to get my next project finished – Which will be dropping a new mix tape before the year is done.

Are you the type of recording artist that writes there lyrics down, or will you just hear a beat in the studio and get straight into it?

A bit of both, I’ll have ideas and concepts that I’ll write down, but sometimes I’ll just hear a beat and it’ll bring out an idea or emotion.

And if we were to walk into your studio what would we see?

Hahaha! Some food, cigarettes and me writing away.

What’s been your greatest memory so far whilst performing live?

Loads – Performing with Killsonic on a beach in Russia, Outlook Festival when we caused a stage invasion by getting everyone so hype is one, gigs with Chase and Status are always great.

Any forthcoming releases or projects you can tell us about?

Just wrapping up the mixtape –  It’s all original tracks and production… Sounding big! There’s a few special guests on there to.
