A Quick Chat with Javeon

07/11/13

Moving in the circles of Bristol’s vibrant underground scene has meant that Javeon has had heaps of inspiration to help support his own song writing.  He’ll be making the trip from out West to the capital for New Year’s Eve at Building Six – performing a live set in the main room. On a roll, with a steady run of shows and support under his belt, Javeon is looking to the future. With upcoming releases on some of the scenes most cherished labels, due to come our in the next few weeks you can be sure to catch a glimpse of this guys talents as he helps us to bring in 2014.

Hi Javeon, thanks for taking the time to speak with LWE. We’re looking forward to having you play live at our NYE party! What have you been up to?
For the past year I’ve been away working on my album! My new single, the first from my album, just dropped so I’ve been doing lots of press and shows promoting them both.

Being from Bristol everyone always talks about the music community down there as being really open minded and forward thinking. What was it like growing up there?
Growing up in Bristol was great! There are so many different flavours and styles, that it’s hard not to experiment and be around it all. Especially in the heart of Bristol!

And musically, what artists are you surrounded by when in that city?
Roni Size is my friend’s Dad, so being around him and being able to go in his full cycle studio where Krust and Clipz (Redlight) were making tunes, was more than the inspiration I needed to keep going. I have met the Massive Attack guys – They are not friends of mine, but I see them see them walking around every now and again. Joker and New York Transit Authority/Mensah are good friends of mine – Everyone pretty much knows each other here in Bris its nice.

Where would we most likely find you hanging out in your hometown?
If not at home, Joker’s or the gym.

And for people that don’t know the city, what’s the best thing about it?
If you don’t know about Bristol, it’s a colourful place – you’re guaranteed to have a good night. I recommend Stokes Croft highly!

What are your plans for the rest of the year – any forthcoming release of collaborations you can shout about?
Sure. I’ve got some more music being released real soon, shooting a few music videos and one will be released before Christmas.

And if we were to walk into your studio what would we see.
I don’t have my own studio at the moment, so nothing! However, my label have a studio and it’s very comfortable! In there you can find a sofa, scented candles, a mac, some monitors, a compressor and quite a few of Two Inch Punch’s keyboards. Oh, and a few random pictures as well.

Any new years resolutions coming up, or is that question too early?!
My new years resolution is to enjoy what’s ahead, whilst continuing to work hard!
