XXXY will make his debut appearance with LWE this weekend, alongside Trus’me and Pional at Mixed. Expect a kaleidoscope of house driven sounds, that have made him an integral member of the Rinse FM crew. Now residing in Berlin we caught up with the man behind the beats for a quick chat…
What do you consider to be the most important moment in your career so far?
I guess it would have to be the release of Ordinary Things on Ten Thousand Yen, it was great seeing this record sell out so quickly and the amazing response online.
What is your favourite album right now
I would say it’s a toss up between the Levon Vincent album and the new Björk album
Which album influenced you most growing up?
Kid A by Radiohead, when I was starting to get bored of guitar music in my teens this came out and it was incredible for me to see a band take a risk on an album and not rest on their laurels, I also loved that people who wanted another “Bends” or “OK computer” got really riled up about this record. I think all good artists should progress and change their sound.
Is there a release you feel has been unfairly slept on in recent times?
PT/B – “Confessions” on Downtown Romeo, a really emotional and banging record, still available in some places unbelievably
If you could collaborate with any artist in the world alive or dead, who would it be?
Do you prefer small clubs or big clubs?
Depends on the club, I am happy as long as I am not up on a stage, I like to feel part of the crowd when I am playing.
What track would you use to save the party after a bad warm up DJ?
PT/B – Leave me behind
If you had your own Back To The Future style Delorean, where and when would you go back to? And why?
Hacienda 1990s Manchester, I missed out on seeing this as I was too young, would have been good to see how it was
Who is your favourite seminal Chicago House producer?
Who is your ‘hot tip’ for 2015?
What can we expect to hear from you in the coming year?
A few new remixes, another EP on Rinse and another 12” which I am finalising right now.
