We caught up with Giles, who was the lucky winner of our Awakenings competition, which included flights from London to Amsterdam for two nights, for two people and a whole load more. Here’s what he thought of his time at Awakenings and in the city.
“The Gashouder venue was incredible and enormous, showcasing a lighting show like none I had ever seen. The music lived up to my expectations and the energy was apparent from the get-go. Nicole Moudaber was amazing!
Amsterdam as a city itself was amazing. The traffic was replaced with cyclists and the public transport was simple and efficient, the whole place just seemed very relaxed.
When it came to the clubbing scene I was blown away. The venues were unlike anything I could regularly visit from home and they created an environment that would keep the clubbers in until the very early hours. They included indoor smoking areas, huge rooms to maneuver around, places to relax and incredible sound systems. There were no bad experiences in the clubs, everything and everyone was great – from the door staff to the bar staff. Everyone seemed to be there for the right reasons and it was easy to meet some really friendly people.
Some great moments included ‘Debbie Jacobs – Don’t you want my love’ being dropped during the early hours of Trouw’s Hessle Audio b2b2b2b and so on at Trouw. Other great moments include Prosumer and Murat Tepeli killing it at 8am Saturday morning and Delta Funktionen’s acid laden afternoon session, both at the Breakfast Club at Melkweg. It was a great trip full of great music and great people. An experience I won’t forget and I am sure I will be returning to ADE.
Thanks to all at LWE for giving me this fantastic experience!
Here is the official video of one of the best memories I had from Delta Funktionen’s set:
