Dubspeeka Interview

The illusive Bristol based producer has caught the attention of the genres heavyweights. His tunes are deep, yet powerful and driven by the heaviest of basslines and kick-drums that are infused with darkness making him the perfect fit for Halloween.

Hi Dubspeeka. Thanks for taking the time to speak to LWE… Been enjoying summer?

Yeah, it’s been nice. Need to get some aircon for the studio tho.

So you’re based in Bristol, how important has that part of the world been in influencing you musically?

To be honest I don’t think it really matters where you live. I’ve had some great times out in Bristol but I don’t really think it has guided my sound. I love a lot of the music that comes from the city, but I also love a lot of music from around the world which also inspires me.

What do you think is good about the UK techno scene at the moment?

I think a lot of the UK techno has a particular sound, can’t quite put my finger on it, more of a vibe. But I can usually tell when its from the UK. I think we try and push it into different areas. It’s really exciting for me and I’m intrigued to see where it goes.

5 tracks that keep reappearing in your DJ sets at the moment?

Trus’Me – Somebody (Mosca remix)
Dense & Pika – Crispy Duck
The Acid – Fame (Factory Floor Dub Mix)
Trikk – Uncore95
Dense & Pika – Crispy Duck

Any forthcoming releases or other projects you can shout about?

Have a remix coming out soon on Octopus and currently working on an EP for Drumcode.

If you could describe your music in 3 words what would it be?

Sweat, Bass & Dynamics.

If we were to walk into your studio what would we see?

Leads, LEDs, Intelligel, Disstressors, Mr Moog, Mr Mac and my beloved Adams.

What are you most looking forward to about playing the Awakenings and Drumcode Halloween event?

Really looking forward to checking out the other DJs that are playing, so many to choose from, I hope I catch most of them.

Favourite horror movie?

Tell us something people might not know about you?

I’m also a member of the group Kosheen.
