Point Blank Music School has already picked up accolades such as being voted the world’s ‘Best Electronic Music School’ by the readers of DJ Mag. Their passion for spreading knowledge and encouraging the next generation of electronic music icons is second to none. For that reason they’ve been called in to inspire the youth, and the more technologically hungry attendees of LEAF with a series of masterclasses. Listen to discussion on the process of music making from those that have defined genres, through innovation in the studio and new technologies.
During the Friday conversations element the Point Blank team have lined up a pretty incredible series of masterclases from: Ben Pearce, Busy P, DJ Hype, Dusky, Luciano, Micachu, Sasha. Here’s a look at what to expect in more detail…
Get to know the workings of Ben Pearce, who has managed the careful balance of maintaining his underground status whilst having chart success with “What I Might do.” This will be the opportunity to find out more about his workings in the studio!
As well as being the A&R man, creative director Busy P aka Pedro Winter is the man behind Paris’s global export – Ed Banger Records. The French outfit oozes swagger and finessed in every aspect of it’s output from artwork to mental after parties. Check out how he helped take French electro…
DJ Hype is revered in his circles as being junglist to the very roots, having championed the drum n bass sounds over the last two decades on all platforms possible. Refusing to follow the trends, his label Playaz has helped to define the sound from it’s birth to where it’s at today.
Dusky have been at the forefront of the UK DJ circuit for the last few years, having ridden the wave of the bass influenced house resurgence. With productions that have become staples in the sets of many, regulars in the club, at home and on festival mainstages it’s easy to see why.
The London based singer and songwriter is classically trained, and driven by a passion for using instruments in unique ways. Best known for her band Michachu and The Shapes, she has been prominently recognised for using extensive distortion, non-standard tuning and a variety of other techniques to create a distinctive offbeat flow.
It’s hard to pinpoint exactly how much Sasha has done for the scene and for the profile of electronic music in this county. Having helped steer the movement over various bumps and turns over the years. He is simply a rulebreaker, that is always looking a few steps ahead. If there are boundaries there to be broken, then you can bet that Sasha has got them in his crosshairs.
