Today, LEAF announces further additions to its Friday Conversations daytime section at Tobacco dock. Firstly, Point Blank Music School, voted the world’s ‘Best Electronic Music School’ by the readers of DJ Mag, will be hosting a specialist master class area for the more technologically hungry attendees of LEAF.
Producers revealed for Point Blank Masterclasses
Starting out as a commercial recording studio and journeying to their current internationally renowned status, Point Blank’s goal has always been to harness and demonstrate the creative process of making music at the highest level. Expert knowledge will be on offer from some of the most talented and respected artists in the world individually hosted sessions from Ben Pearce, Busy P, DJ Hype, Dusky, Luciano, Micachu and Sasha, covering everything from production and DJ focused master classes, to live track deconstruction, discussions on setting up a label and the process and emotions involved in breaking a new act.
Secondly, LEAF are pleased to announce the addition of a special Ninja Tune panel – Ninja Tune at 25. Here, the progressive UK label will discuss their music and the music industry past and present. Panel members include Ninja Tune artists Toddla T, Andreya Triana and label owner, Peter Quicke.
Ninja Tune is label home of artists including Actress, Amon Tobin, Bonobo, The Bug, The Cinematic Orchestra, Coldcut, Machinedrum, Martyn, Romare and Seven Davis Jr – plus sub-labels Big Dada (Kate Tempest, Roots Manuva, Wiley, Young Fathers) and Counter (The Heavy, Howling, ODESZA).
A Short Film About Chilling celebrates it’s 25th Anniversary with us at LEAF this year, with a screening and conversation moderated by Chris English that will also feature some of the film’s key protagonists.
Angus Cameron’s 1990 channel 4 documentary captured the spirit of early 90’s Ibiza, featuring interviews and performances from Terry Farley, Boy’s Own, 808 State, The Farm, A Man Called Adam and Rocky & Diesel. Packed with insightful footage from the legendary KU club (now Privilege) and Cafe Del Mar and a soundtrack showcasing music from Bocca Juniors, Andrew Weatherall, The Orb, The Grid, Primal Scream and stacks of timeless records from the period.
Finally, LEAF announces panelists for the Meet Team RAM Records discussion panel which will consist of founder Andy C, Label MD Scott Bourne, Jason Ellis (Virgin / Positiva), Dean Marsh (Creative law) and Andy Singh (Republic of Music).
RAM Records has played a consistently dominant role in the foundation and development of drum & bass as a genre since it’s inception in 1992. Originally the label placed itself boldly at the forefront of a genre that didn’t even exist yet. It quickly cultivated it’s own distinctive sonic signature that helped kick start the Drum and Bass movement and careers of artists such as Andy C, Chase & Status, Sub Focus, and Wilkinson.
