Check out our interview with one of mobilee’s newest and freshest sounds – Ranacat. He’ll be joining the mobilee crew on the 24th January at Egg London. We’ve been looking forward to this one for a while, and looking forward to seeing what this man can do, as we’ve heard big things.
You have a long history of promoting parties, such as Word Of Mouth, showcasing new underground DJs. Are you still involved in promoting new talents? What does it mean to you?
I was involved in promoting parties when I was in London. I loved it. Word of Mouth with my brothers Chico and Oli from Sonogama was really cool. Small parties, great sound system, local talent and friends – that’s what it was all about. That’s what’s underground. No bullshit. Now that I’m in Berlin things are different in terms of promoting parties. I’m still figuring it out, but I definitely want to do something here too. Especially some Sneaky showcases.
Speaking of which… Sneaky is the label you launched together with Andy Bird. Can you tell us a little about how this has come together and where is the label now?
Andy and I met and had a good laugh and got really drunk at an after party. Next thing we knew we had Sneaky vinyl on the street! It feels amazing to run a label but it’s also very time consuming. We feel very lucky and proud to be releasing such amazing artists. It takes a lot of work and patience to grow a label from scratch and get noticed. I have a feeling that next year will be ours! 2014 has been a busy year for you with Mad Man EP release, what have you got planned next?
The title Mad Man couldn’t be more appropriate to describe what past year was for me. Mental! But happily I could still manage to write some cool tracks. I’m currently talking to some of the labels that are interested but I don’t wanna say anything yet. You will definitely hear some releases from me next year.
It’s been your second season of mobilee rooftop parties and other exciting nights in Barcelona. Can you give us your highlights of the past summer?
All mobilee parties rocked! The music, the rooftop, and the people – all were super cool!
What do you enjoy most about being part of the mobilee family?
The more I hear mobilee artists playing at clubs, the more I feel proud of being part of it. Superb qualities all round. From deep house to tech house and techno, each one of us has their own particular style and that makes it richer in my opinion. It’s priceless for me as I have a very eclectic taste. I wouldn’t be as happy working with a label where the artists play the same sound all night!
