Starting off their new series of shows for 2014 at the Fire venue in central London, and with 10 years of Shogun in the bag, the team behind one of bass musics most definitive labels have gone big for their next London show. Always looking to move things forward, Friction will spearhead the night with one of his must-see 2 hour sets. Now a trusted voice on the airwaves, thanks to his residency on Radio 1, Friction has been monumental in taking Drum and Bass to the commercial heights of where it is today. That said, Friction is very much a DJ that represents the underground – Someone like Friction wouldn’t forget his roots or the scene he helped pioneer. Expect a journey through bass music from one of the scenes biggest players who always takes things to a another level when he’s playing a LWE show.
Calyx & Teebee have built up a reputation for claiming the dance-floor as their own through a multi- dimensional approach of pulsating bass-lines. Stripping things back to the basics, the big and bold sounds of Calyx & Teebee represent years of crafting a genre bending sound and an obsessive attention to detail. Year’s of hard work in the studio, and going back to the drawing board in what they wanted to do (on numerous occasions) has got them the success they have had today. Both massive fans of house music, C&T remains very much a drum n bass duo, although they’ve hinted at releasing at the slower BPMS.
Next up we listen to the sounds of Rinse FM taste maker and dutch born Icicle, who originality relocated to the UK as the demand for him over here got so great it made it impractical to live in his motherland! Firstly, if you haven’t heard it yet check out the Shogun Audio presents album featuring two Icicle tracks that deserve multiple reloads. Icicles “Dumbstep” and the banger “Minimal Funk” are two beats that have become staples in the crates of DJs across the UK. His bass driven blend of the deeper and darker side of dub-step along with elements of DNB make him one of the best in that field.
Spectrasoul have established themselves as one of the top new breeds within bass music. Refusing to compromise on quality this duo are second to none, and have only released on the most respected drum n bass labels. Their ability to shorten the gap between the darker and more liquid influenced beats, give them a floaty yet dynamic hold on the dancefloor.
Listen to this recent mix they did for 1xtra.
Rockwell’s Radio 1 residency has allowed the producer to show the versatility he has in his sound. Just as likely to cue up a bit of trap as a heavy roller or an old skool classic. It’s this cut up mentality when he’s mixing that has got him the peak time set times, as you never know what he’ll pull out of the bag. Signing exclusively to Shogun Audio, he is one of the most exciting talents to have emerged in DNB over the few years and continues on his upwards ascent.

Technimatic have consistently got better and better with each release and have now positioned themselves as respected players within the scene. The triple threat approach of putting the hours in the studio, being driven by the dance-floor and a distinctive sound has put them on this pedestal.
Layers of bubbling basslines and otherwordly synths has given Joe Ford an innovative techtonic sound. We can’t wait to see him go back to back with Fourward who’s another young gun injecting some new energy into the scene.
Listen to this mix he did for LWE.
Randall is still killing it on a weekly bass at clubs across the land with one of his infamous jungle sets.
