Steve Bug has continually been a torch-bearer for electronic music, whether in the club, in the studio or nourishing the talents of other producers via his label Poker Flat Recordings. Having made his inaugural release with Cocoon in 2001, Steve has continued to keep that partnership with the label whilst simultaneously working on his own. Having just celebrated 15 years of Poker Plat the Frenchman has been in a retrospective mood of late, which has only propelled him to innovate the genre further.
Talking to People Act Magazine earlier this month he said that his best memory for the label was :
“Probably when we started it, and the first single ‘Double Action’ become a big seller. It was a perfect start for a new label.”
For the DJs out there Steve is an inspiration for his ability behind the decks, but also his obsessive attention to detail in the studio which has helped him create classics like “Look Who’s Stalking” and “Zero Balance.” Having evolved so much since he first started, the studio is still the most important place for him, as he prepares to start work on a new album.
When asked by People Act, what he could wish for more in 2015 as an artist he responded:
“Vinyl sales and people who understand that you can’t judge a DJ after 2 records… ”
He’s recently put together a chart for his favourite deep house tracks on YouTube, so if you are at a laptop, press play and listen to what real deep house sounds like! Steve has certainly cut through all the hype and got down to the music with this selection!
