Doncaster Youth Jazz Association’ is an incredible organisation that every year gives musical instruments and inspirational teaching to hundreds of youngsters in tough circumstances. Its been going since 1973. From one of the most deprived areas it has turned out successive waves of the UK’s top players, and given hope and self-worth to thousands of others.
It’s an association close to Andy Cato‘s heart. It was them that put an instrument in his hand and taught him to play. All the staff have always worked for free, but keeping the lights on still costs money. With all funding cut by the government in 2010 it is now hanging by a thread and relies completely on fundraising and donations. Buying a ticket to the GA/Brodanse Sweat party on October 5th not only gets you a night of heavy house amongst friends and lovers. It also helps to keep the lights on for UK music.
