Interview

Theo Kottis

09/12/15

We caught up with Theo Kottis to chew the fat ahead of Fatboy Slim’s Smile High Club. We spoke about New Years the parties from times long since passed, and also the tracks that have defined 2015 for him.

What’s been your  best New Year’s  memory?

A really vivid memory I have is playing an edit of Todd Terje – Ragysh during the bells NYE 2013. It was at the Liquid Rooms in Edinburgh to around 1500 people, good times!

What’s been the highlight of 2015 for you so far?

2015 has been a great year for me. I couldn’t name just one highlight. I’ve played in legendary venues like fabric in London & Sub Club in Glasgow. Im fortunate to have travelled to play in amazing European cities such as Amsterdam, Barcelona and I managed to play in Ibiza 4 times including Space and Sankeys!

5 tracks you’ve loved to play this year?

Best memory behind the decks in 2015?

Again, too many to choose from… Closing my set at Space with Daft Punk – Revolution 909 is up there!

Best back to back set you’ve played this year?

A few this year have been impromptu and a lot of fun, warming me up nicely for 2016, when on New Year’s Day ill be playing b2b with Ben Pearce in Aberdeen. I’ll also be playing with Denis Sulta and Telford from the Sub Club later in the year too.

Favourite festival stage?

Lost Village festival was amazing. The creativity and thought that went into the production of the whole event was so impressive, walking from stage to stage and avoiding traps in the trees was certainly something I’ve never seen on the festival circuit!

Favourite place to go and eat at the moment?

I’ve been spending a lot of time in London recently and my girlfriend and I have been doing our own pizza tour, so far Homeslice is leading – the pizzas are huge and the ingredients are so fresh.

If we were to walk into your studio what would we see?

Dry January?

Yes going to try it out starting on the 3rd after a big one at Tobacco Docks on the 2nd!

Any New Years resolutions?

I’ve got 2 – Get a vinyl release. Work with a vocalist. I’m pretty determined that I’ll make these a reality soon!

What’s your next release?

I have remixed Samuel L Session on Saved Records – 8th January. A single on Anjunadeep29th January and a remix on new Glasgow label Posterboy records 5th February.

Can you remember how you celebrated New Years last years?

I played in Edinburgh alongside Subb-an and Waze & Odyssey. Great times!

What can we expect to hear from you in 2016?

Apart from the previous releases mentioned I will be hosting the After Hours mix on Pete Tong’s BBC Radio 1 show!
