LWE Mix 228: Ella Knight

Listen to the mix here

How would you describe your sound at the moment?

I’d say it’s soul-soaked 90’s garage and house, with percussive-driven beats and flashes of disco & big vocals woven in.

Who or what has been your biggest inspiration musically?

Masters at Work, without a doubt. Their ability to create music that feels both timeless and cutting-edge is unmatched. The way they blend soulful house, Latin influences, and jazz elements really resonates with my own style—I love fusing genres and bringing emotional depth to dance music.

What is one essential you always keep with you when you’re travelling?

Headphones! I’m always listening to music, whether I’m on a plane, walking around, or just sitting in a café.

Where is the best place you’ve played in London?

Hootananny Brixton, for sure. That’s where I hosted my very first Ella Knight’s House Party. It was such a pivotal moment for me and it made me realise this was more than just a passion, it was a career. The venue’s grassroots, no-frills vibe brought this raw energy, and the connection between the DJs and the audience made the whole night feel so alive.

Best moment of 2024?

Being named one of Mixmag’s DJs to watch for 2025. That recognition meant the world to me, it felt like all the hard work I’ve been putting in is paying off. It’s motivated me to push even harder in 2025.

In a perfect world, how would you spend New Years Eve?

Definitely not in the UK! I’d want to do something unconventional and wholesome, somewhere with a stunning view. And no wild hangovers—I want to wake up on New Year’s Day feeling fresh and inspired.

If you could bring back Ella Knight’s House Party, which 3 DJs are you booking?

Ron Trent, Masters At Work, Kerri Chandler.

Who is one collective you’d like to put us onto?

Brighter Days Family, they are really recontextualizing all of my favourite genres to create something super fresh and unique.

What is one thing you’re excited for in 2025?

Releasing my own music, and collaborating with some of my favourtie artists.
