AT HOME WITH: REES

Middlesborough born selector, REES runs us through his picks for today’s At Home With.

Inspired by the UK underground rave scene, the Paradiso Records founder has an eclectic music style which has made him somewhat of a tastemaker. With DJ sets moving briskly from Italo to Disco via Electro, he has already racked up a Redlight Radio Show and a Boiler Room alongside a regular spot at the Ape-X parties. His productions - with their vintage synths and crunching beats - have gained praise from heavyweight names Axel Boman, Laurent Garnier and DJ MAG, proving the sky's the limit for this young boy from Boro.

REES’s selections include Bicep, Orpheu The Wizard, Llewellyn, Talk Talk and more.

A Recent Mix:

REES - Feel My Bicep Mixtape

This mix has a lot of personal pride attached to it, I've been listening to the Bicep podcast's for years so to be welcomed on was huge. Plus I couldn't be happier with how the mix turned out, my favourite in many ways.

An All Time Favourite Mix:

Orpheu The Wizard - Dekmantel

I remember coming away from this set incomplete awe at Orpheu, he closed the Dekmantel's selector stage as the night fell under that willow tree and he blew my mind. I've always drawn a lot from this mix, so I can't recommend enough giving it a listen.

A Recent Release:

Llewellyn - Recapture The Past

Llewellyn is one of my favourite ever artists, everything he touches is golden. His new release is more of the same class, on the one and only Robert Johnson.

An All Time Favourite Release:

Talk Talk - The Party's Over

What an album. Up there in my all-time greatest list, truly timeless music from 1982. This album draws me through so many different emotions, which is what separates good music from great music. 10/10.

A Good Read:

Attack Magazine - 4 ways to break out of the loop

Attack Magazine are GOD! This article on breaking out of the dreaded loop when producing was a world of good! Especially when experiencing creators block, I think this will be very helpful for a lot of others out there.

Something To Watch:

Behind The Headphones - Man Power

Always enjoy the features on The RRP, but this one takes it for me. I have a lot of respect for Man Power and always interested in what he has to say, he's an amazing artist and a great advocate for the North East.
